To promote positive education and foster the values of emotional management and unity, our school held the ‘Positive Movie Viewing and Sharing Event’ on Friday, 29th May. That evening, we once again invited an Instructor from Institute of Positive Psychology to serve as guest host. Many parents from both our school and the local community attended the event with their children.
The film “Inside Out”(2015) tells the story of 11-year-old Riley and her ‘emotional’ brain friends, who accompany her through the challenges of moving to a new home. Throughout the story, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust work together to help Riley manage her emotions and protect the ‘islands’ that represent her core values. After a series of emotional ups and downs caused by the move, Riley finally opens up to her parents about her inner struggles. Her feelings are released, and she finds comfort within her heart.
After the movie, the Instructor led parents and children to discuss how to handle emotions that are about to ‘explode.’ When we notice our emotions ‘heating up’, both children and parents can ‘pause’ to recognize and express their feelings. Then, by ‘slowing down’ to address the situation, we can give emotions the appropriate space to be released.
We look forward to having even more families join the positive education activities organized by our school in the future, so that positive education and positive values can continue to help children grow in love.
