Lantern Festival

Chinese Language & Literature × Visual Arts × Music × Chinese Culture

To celebrate the Lantern Festival, all students participated in the "Passing the Stars" activity, folding stars by hand and writing their wishes on them to pray for a prosperous and peaceful nation. Parents also lovingly prepared sweet dumplings (tangyuan) for the entire school to share, embodying the festive spirit of reunion and harmony. On the same day, student representatives from each class recited ancient poems on stage (a poetry recitation activity), experiencing the beauty of Chinese culture and literature through poetry and songs.

At the end of the event, all teachers and students sang "Red Cotton," accompanied by the school's popular music band. Student representatives performed on stage, and the entire school sang along. "Red Cotton," with lyrics by Zheng Guojiang, music by Zhong Zhaofeng, and sung by Luo, won one of the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs in 1981. The lyrics use the red cotton tree (also known as the hero tree) as an image, praising its "striving upwards" and "unyielding spirit." The upright and unyielding character of the red cotton tree symbolizes the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation: self-improvement and perseverance. Through singing "Red Cotton," students not only experience the beauty of music but also deeply internalize the core values of Chinese culture—integrity, ambition, and perseverance—ensuring that traditional spirit is passed down from generation to generation on campus.
